Seal of Costa Rica  Costa Rica is a country located on the Central American isthmus (10° N from the equator and 84° W from the Prime Meridian) that is bordered both by the Caribbean Sea (to the east) and the North Pacific Ocean (to the west). Features a total of 1,290 km (800 mi) of coastline, 212 km (132 mi) on the Caribbean coast and 1,016 km (631 mi) on the Pacific.

The territorial frontiers of Costa Rica are 309 km (192 mi) to the north with Nicaragua and 639 km (397 mi) to the south-southeast with Panama. Costa Rica have a total area of 51,100 km² (19,700 sq mi), plus 589 km² (227 sq mi) of territorial waters (thanks to the contribution of Cocos Island in a major part).

     Average Temperature: 20.3°C (68.5°F)
     Annual Rainfall: 1,500 - 2,000 mm (59-79 inches)

 Costa Rica also have several islands. Cocos Island (24 km²/9.3 square miles) is a very important biodiversity world repository and a ecotourism destination, despite its distance from continental landmass, 300 mi (480 km) from Puntarenas.

Due to its 3,820 m (12,500 ft) Cerro Chirripó is the highest peak in the country, and the fifth in Central America. The highest volcano in the country is the Irazú Volcano with 3,431 m (11,260 ft). The largest lake in Costa Rica is Lake Arenal with an area of 124 km² (48 square miles) and a mean depth of 30-60 m (100-200 ft).
